Thanks to Lee Ferguson at Bucketlist Music Reviews for the earnest album review! Really appreciated this one. The album seems to be a grower.

There's been a secret side project in the works - that's code for: I didn't know whether or not we would get around to actually doing it! The project started off with Devin proposing the idea that we go old school and do a set of remixes of one of the band's past singles. My first thought was that no one actually collects music in that way anymore, at least not in the genre that we do. Neither would people even get a whiff of what we were up to amidst twitchy attention spans of the modern multi-pixelated social media age -- but making art is art, and I couldn't resist the prospect of exploring the potential of the song 'At First Sight' since everyone seems to tell me what a great little piece of music it is. So, that's that. And without even realizing it, in between the making of the album, we've gone and released a four-set song compilation of remixes.
Between the haze of it all, I tried to come up with a fun idea in engaging some of our fans to participate in this otherwise obscure project, and lo, great success on that front! You can check out the result of fan engagement by sneaking a peek at our pre-release video where you'll see the album cover is covered with some furry friends who belong to our little loyal army of fans! I had a great time putting it together and I'm really looking forward to releasing this little collection of remixes.
Excited to be releasing a remix of our single "At First Sight" on all platforms (Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, etc)!

This is where everything can go wrong. I was talking to a friend about running marathons and she told me that one of the hardest things to train yourself *not* to do is thinking about the end when there are still miles yet to run. I could only nod and go "mmm" as I chewed on her wisdom.
So, where am I? Somewhere lost in the timescape æther of the very inception of this album to this point of no return, where, for better or worse, fragments of dreams and words and sounds are coming to a close but with miles yet to run. Fortunately, with a little help from my friends, I can keep my sanity intact. I can, I can, I can.
So, here I am. I often lob the ball into Devin's court who rigorously keeps my ears in line for all lines are blurred. Sound waves pass thru and reverberate in the echo chamber of my brain and bounce around screaming, "What is this you're hearing!? Is this what you want!?" -- something like that.
I've also brought onboard another trusted and talented friend, Louis-Philipe, (I am truly blessed to know such people!) who will be mastering the album. He also helps keeps the peace inside the ol' noggin. LP and I spent the other night waxing on for hours about sound and the perfect tone and what we really loved about albums and their potential to make us feel warmth. It's this kind of comfort-talk that I find myself not only in good company but thoughtful company as well.
There's a special sort of moment, too...when you get back your first song mastered: polished, unveiled, and borne. There's a certain clarity in what happens in private moments when you are able to unburden yourself from all the baggage you've been carrying, like coming home after a long sojourn and discovering what it's like to enjoy sitting in your favourite chair again.
I'm looking forward to listening to music again. I'm also looking forward to sharing THIS music.

Devin came in late to the game as a welcome co-producer and a much needed stress relief, if I am to be honest. There’s got to be a better way to get this album done, I keep thinking, but then new ideas come into my head and give me a complete paradigm shift of my initial intentions. Well, that’s not entirely true. Being extremely organized to a fault is definitely a fault of mine. The problem with being organized is having your organization methods match everyone else's.
When I wrote this album, I wrote the ideas myself. Then I brought it to the band to arrange and then we played live and then through all that process of energy, the dynamics changed and Mike wanted to add this and Aoi wanted to shorten that and then I found out Antoine wasn’t happy with this other thing. The skeleton of the writing always stayed intact but me being me, I wanted to tweak everything once I got to hear everyone’s voices.
Fast forward to everyone happy and we move on to recording.
I sat down one day at the studio fully intending to work through and finish what I thought was to be a simple and straightforward song. Devin heard the beat I was working with and just went, “hmm” and I flicked my eyes to him to say hmm what and he goes without pausing, “you need to make that beat do more, like really fuck it up” and of course I balked inwardly.
Antoine had done a similar thing to me in regards to another song that became infinitely better after his criticisms. But in that moment, I didn’t realize this and I just winced – not because of the challenge of making the song better, but because of the never ending task that seemed to be the making of this album.
I asked Devin what he wanted. He said he’d tinker with it later at home but I am intolerably impatient when it comes to these things. So I didn’t sleep at all that night and at 4 a.m. or some ungodly hour of the like, I sent him a tired text saying that I had completed a beat, or actually two overlapping beats, my penchant for complexity applied as a means of saturating my overwhelming anxiety. My thought was that if it seemed like I put a lot of work into it, it’d get a pass. Got my pass. Relief, so sweet.
The song now sits as a unique standalone amongst the set of songs, a welcome favourite. So it goes.
